Ranked-Choice Voting is a Proven Upgrade for Seattle
Ranked-choice voting (RCV) is a simple improvement to the way we vote. With RCV, you can rank candidates on your ballot in the order you prefer: 1st choice, 2nd choice, 3rd choice, and so on. If your favorite can’t win, your vote counts for your next choice.
Voters Like RCV
RCV is the fastest-growing non-partisan reform in the U.S. Voters who try RCV say it’s simple and they want to keep using it.
Empowers Voters
RCV gives you more say. Vote for who you really want, then rank your backup choices. No more voting for the lesser of two evils.
RCV Improves Representation
More women and people of color run and win with RCV, so governments better reflect their communities.
The Right Incentives
RCV rewards politicians who reach beyond their base to build common ground, producing civil, issue-focused campaigns that focus on solutions.
How to Cast Your Vote for RCV
Vote YES for change and YES for ranked-choice voting!
You must vote on two questions to bring ranked-choice voting to Seattle. First, vote YES on Proposition 1, which asks whether you want to change the way elections are run in Seattle. Next, vote YES on Proposition 1B, which says that the type of voting you would like to adopt is ranked-choice voting.
Why Not Approval Voting?
Vote NO for an untested, unproven method
Approval voting is an alternative voting method that allows voters to cast multiple votes for as many candidates as they would like to “approve.” The two candidates with the most “approvals” advance to the general election.
This system tries to offer the same benefits of ranked-choice voting, but in reality, it comes up short. Read our explainer.
Who Has Endorsed Prop 1B?
We’re proud of the coalition of organizations and public servants who all see how ranked-choice voting can improve our elections ad give more voice to voters.
