Contact Your Legislator

Send an Email to Your Legislator

It’s easy—and surprisingly effective.

Start by saying you support “local options for ranked-choice voting” and “ranked-choice voting for presidential primaries,” and ask for their support as well. Then tell them why you love ranked-choice voting.

Not Sure What to Say?

Four common reasons to love ranked-choice voting:

More Choices on the Ballot RCV allows voters to vote for the candidates they really like and creates opportunity for more candidates to run.

More Positive Campaigns RCV encourages candidates to run positive, issue-focused campaigns and reach out to more voters with their message.

Less Cost to Taxpayers RCV could save towns, cities, and counties significant costs by eliminating unnecessary primary elections.

Improved Representation Encourages more candidates to run and more voters to participate, resulting in a more representative government.

Please speak from your own heart. There are many reasons beyond these to support ranked-choice voting. A follow-up call to your legislator’s office is super effective. Even a voicemail sends a strong message.

Thank you for your support!

Upcoming Legislation

Two bills that we are advocating for would bring more voice, more choice, and more say to voters in our state. Both bills earned bipartisan support in the 2021-2022 legislative session and will be reintroduced in January, 2023.

RCV Local Options Bill
This bill will allow cities and towns to adopt ranked-choice voting for their local elections if they want to. Already, the cities of Snohomish, Spokane, Seattle, Gold Bar, Bellingham, Burien, Olympia, Ferndale and Vancouver, as well as Snohomish County, have called upon the legislature to pass this bill.

RCV for Presidential Primaries
The RCV for Presidential Primaries bill will allow you to rank the candidates in the order you prefer them in our presidential primary elections. That way, even if your first choice drops out of the race, your vote will still count for your next choice.
